The Mikado

THE MIKADO by Gilbert & Sullivan
The Mikado is a comic opera by Gilbert and Sullivan set in the fictional Japanese town of Titipu. The story follows Nanki-Poo, the son of the Mikado (the emperor), who has fled to avoid marrying an older woman named Katisha. In Titipu, he falls in love with Yum-Yum, who is already engaged to Ko-Ko, the new Lord High Executioner. When the Mikado orders an execution to take place, Nanki-Poo and Ko-Ko devise a plan to avoid anyone losing their head. However, complications arise when Katisha arrives to expose Nanki-Poo’s true identity. Through a series of humorous and satirical twists, the characters navigate their way to a happy resolution. It’s a delightful tale filled with wit, romance and clever social commentary. Sung in English.

The Magic Flute is a fantastical opera that follows the adventures of Prince Tamino and the bird-catcher Papageno. They are on a quest to rescue Pamina, the daughter of the Queen of the Night, who has been kidnapped by the high priest Sarastro. Tamino and Papageno are given magical instruments—a flute and bells—that help them overcome various trials. Along the way, Tamino learns that Sarastro is a benevolent leader, and the Queen of the Night is the true villain. Through their journey, Tamino and Pamina not only discover the power of love and wisdom, but also the transformative effect of these virtues, ultimately joining Sarastro's enlightened community. Cornelia will be singing “Furibondo spira il vento” from Handel’s Partenope with strings/continuo.
Join Clarum Sonum on Sunday, September 8 for our first Summer Serenade in five years, featuring Beethoven’s Meeresstille und glückliche Fahrt alongside performances of solo works focused on the themes of travel and nature. Join us after the performance for a reception including light refreshments and the opportunity to gather with our artists.

Join us April 26 and 28 for Music Director Jason Tramm's second concert, the inspiring and ever popular Creation by Joseph Haydn, featuring a full orchestra and leading soloists.
The Creation is an oratorio masterwork of Joseph Haydn and one his most well known works. It depicts the creation of the world as told in the Bible's Book of Genesis. It features rich solo performances by Adam, Eve, and the Angels woven around the ever present chorus.

Rusalka
The most popular and successful Czech opera, Rusalka, tells the story of an immortal water nymph from Slavic Mythology who falls in love with a prince and yearns to become human. It is a sad and touching fairy tale which contains many similarities to Undine by German poet Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué and The Little Mermaid by Danish writer Hans Christian Anderson.
Cornelia will play the 2nd Woodsprite and the Turnspit in this production.
